Internship #16: Friday 1/29

The most significant personal experience that I have learned from this whole Internship is that why do all of us limite our minds to trying to accomplish just one thing but we also dont know that there are many aother things that we can also accomplish. I leanred this because i didnt open my mind to other things in life and just focused on playing soccer and just athletic things, but now i also can see that there are other interesting things just like i lreaned from working at the San Diego ZOO. Now my mind is open to other new things and helping me decide what i want to do now after high school and not just play soccer.

Internship #15: Thrusday 1/28

Even though there is a lot of work to do in the office and filing papers and working on the computer there is also time to hang out with friends and other coworkers. This can be for anything just like Dani, Alana and I did it because we would always be working hard and at lunch we would hang out for lunch or to go out to tours of the ZOO or Wld Animal Park.

Internship #11: Friday 1/22

Summary Of The Week

This whole week has been a pretty good week some what because of the weather and all the rain that has been going on. One of the challenges was the rain because since I wanted to go see the other departments of the Zoo and learn about them I couldn't because either the rain would let me or because many of the employees were out and didn't come in today. But on top of that I got to go to meetings that some what helped me out on seeing what the other departments do and how they really have to communicate and communication is a key thing in the keeping the Zoo working.

What I did almost all day was do spread sheets on excell and stay in my cubicle because of the rain. One new question that came up to me was that what happens if some things happens at home because of the rain or how ever bad the weather is but can at least take like a few mintues to check on your home to see if something happened or not? Also can you maybe ask your Boss to see if you can go home early because you dont want to get into an accidnt?? I also had a question that I thought was pretty good which said that would some one working in a job for so long ever get lazy and not wanna go to work or even work??

Mentor Info

Well what i have learned from my mentor is that she at first didn't want to work at the Zoo because she didn't know what she was going to do there and didn't like the idea of working there. But she said that in the end she really had fun and that she has meet new and interesting new people and that she now enjoys her job. Her high school experience was way different then mine because she said that she would have like to have the same opportunity that I am having because she said that its really nice to experience it now then later when its all new to you and its all ready reality. She really wishes that she could have gone to the same school as HTHMA is.

Some of the characteristics and qualities that i have seen at my internship is that almost every week all the different department have to have a meeting some day of the week because since they have to meet with everyone to see how the projects are going and seeing what has been changed or moved or has been canceled. There is always a good connection between everyone and every body respects everyone on what they have to say and they really listen and communicate. All the people that are in the same room in the meeting have great creativity and they all give each other ideas and try them and and not one person has ever said that they wouldn't try out an idea that has been suggested and all the ideas have been pretty interesting. One thing that i would like to develop from all of this is that i would like to be very open to everyone well i know I am but I have seen that no matter what happens with someones project at the Zoo there is always one friend or employee that will help them with what they need to make that project work and be a great success.

Project Title: ???
General Description: Art Gallery with Alana on how all the little departments at the Zoo work together and help each other to get the Zoo running and functioning. The Zoo is run by many departments not just one because if it was just one then the Zoo would not have been successfully and as popular.

Learning Objectives: The learning objective of this project is to learn from all the departments and their contributions to the Zoo on how they can help the Zoo earn money and help the animals with any needs that they need.

Organization/Company Objectives & Benefits: Well I dont think the project that Alana and I are doing is going to benifit the Zoo in any way but it may help peopl know how the Zoo works and maybe nowpeople might want to help out the Zoo with any donation that they can to help out the animals.

Summery Of My Week

One highlight of my intership for this week was on Wednesday 1/13 when Alana and i got to go see the 4 month old baby panda at the Zoo and even though we had to wait from 9-10:30 so that the panda would just show its head it was worth it because we were the only ones that got to see that. Some challenges that I faced were well I think there was only one chanllenge which was on Friday of this week i had to be in the adoption booth and to every peron or customer that came to the booth i had to explain what our booth was about. At first i got saved twice by one of the employee that was there with me, but after those two times I told myself that there isnt every time that some one is going to save me so I just gave it a wing at it and the next customer that came I had the courge to tell them and i fell proud of myself because i got them to buy one of the things that we were selling. The way that I worked with others was by helping set up the adoption booth and help out sell. One thing that I experienced that i did not expect was that I was going to be selling at a booth because I tought that all I was going to do was help file papers and help my mentor and other people organize their things and just help out that way. But I didnt know that I was going to be selling things but it was really fun eperience. Well the first week of intership is really a great experience well maybe at first you might think that its borging but then there are things that you dont think are are going to come up or things that you dont think that your going to do but its a really fun experience doing so its a really nice and every day and week you never know whats going to happen so thats the great thing abou internship.

Learning About My Mentor

What i would like to learn about my mentor is for started to know how her child hood was and what schools he went to. Also i would like to know is what made her want to work at the the Zoo and where there any other jobs or careers that she wanted to do other then the Zoo. The main thing that im going to ask my mentor is what are the really interesting thhings that she likes about this job that she has and also the things that she had to do in order to becomewhat she is now. This isimportant to me because in the feature might want to not only take this internship as some thing for school but maybe want to become part of this company/organization and become an employee. Also to know the importance of working hard in life and not to take any short cuts in life and know that anything that you want in life or want to become in life its always best to work hard and to do your best and keep doing what you love the most.

One thing that i would ask my mentor is if she is happy working here or would she wanna change her job for a totally different career. What i really want to get out of this interview is to see what i would wanna do the rest of my Junior year and Senor year so that on my way to college I have an idea of maybe what I would want to do or become in life.

Project description: Taking the information I learned from the Management Training and any other knowledge gained during my internship and applying it to my personal life, school, the future. I am teaming up with Alana to show how our departments have a connection to one another.

Project schedule: Data Entry, Employee Appreciation, Help Sort Time Sheets for Payroll, Work at Front Desk, Attend Roar Louder Manager Training, Interviews, Executive Update, Taking Photos, Working on Paper for Project

Materials & Equipment needed: Camera, Computer, and other things (not sure what though)

Project documentation: I will keep all of my papers in a folder and all my work that is documented I either have pictures for examples or proof of work. I will also have a two paragraph article that I wrote and photos that tell my story of what I learned, what I experienced, and how it has helped me develop my future and skills. I will also have stuff that will show the connection departments have with one another.

Project Ideas Part #2

1.What academic skills could you use on the job?

-Some academic skills that i could use in my internship is well use all the project based learning that i got from HTHMA and apply it to the events that I'm going to be helping on and maybe i might be able to create my own event but I'm just not sure yet. But as i go through the maybe first week of my internship i will find a project that well help bot me and my internship.

2. What forms of collaboration could you use in a project?

-The form of collaboration that I'm going to be doing is helping the Zoo get money by getting people to donate money for the Zoo because the Zoo doesn't have a lot of money and it depends on the money that they make from the Zoo because the government doesn't give them money so they have to all work together and work hard to help all the animals that they have at the Zoo.

3. What technical skills can you use at your internship?

- The the technical skills that i can use at my intership are that i have used excell pretty well and since at HTHMA we use excell for most of the things then i have used those skills to help out organize many things for my mentor and for the up coming events. Also with illustrator and designing thing like logos and other designs.

4. What new things can you learn while working at your site?

-The new things that I'm going to learn from my work site is that i will experience how events are planned at the Zoo and how every one works together to get a big project working and how they have to have back-up projects if one of them doesn't work or doesn't turn out the way that the thought it was going to turn out. I have learned that not only at school you have to manage your time for homework and projects but also at work because that's a big key thing here and if one person is behind then things run slow and don't get done one time.

5. How can you exhibit, showcase or otherwise share your work?

- The way that i would share my work or showcase my work would be in a mini booth where every one can walk around and see all the things that i have been doing through out internship. Also disscuse one ny one what i have done in each project that helped out my company or organization.

6. How can your work or your skills & abilities help your company ororganization?

-Well my work and work skills can help the organization/company by helping them raise money that they need to help the endangered species of animals that they have here at the Zoo so the events that i am helping plan are going to help out the Zoo with their needs of money.

Internship #3 Monday 1/11

Project Ideas

-Well since im working with the Development department and the things that im doing with my mentor is planing events so the skills that i want to develop are skill that will help me in the future with exhibition night seens im wrking with event planning then maybe i can be ready to plan some thing for my junior exhibition or for senior exhibition,

-Well the intrest that i have regarding the work that i do was well at first i didnt find it very interesting but then later on i really found it very interesting because since my metor told me that the government was giving them any money then i really got interested in what they ha to do in order tofet money to helo thid indangered animals alive and i became interested in my work.

-Well one need that i think that i can adress is the fact that since the goverment isnt helping out the Zoo with nothing at all then i wanna make sure that i apply all the skills that i have gotten from being there for these 3 days and try to help them out by finishing all the event planning and help in what ever way that i can to help them get as much money as possible.

Internship #2 Friday 1/8

One thing that I have done right to start off on the right note is that I have gone to internship on time and haven't been late. I have also made good friends in my internship with my mentor and with the other employees. Also made good communication with what I'm suppose to do and with the things that need to be accomplished.

The thing I have done to make more interesting opportunities for myself is that I have made great communication and made great friends with many of my fellow employees and with my mentor. With this great opportunities come and i get to go visit many places.

By communicating with the other employees I have gotten to see many parts of the Zoo that not many people get to see which these departments aren't connected with the Zoo so many people don't know about them. Which this makes me think about the new things that I'm going to see the next 3 weeks. With this communication on Wednesday of January 13th some employees, Alana, and myself are going to see the new baby panda.

What i would do to improve on the area above is well I don't think I would want to improve on them so far because they are good and everything is going great at my internship. I'm getting to see a lot of things and just getting to meet a lot of great people and have interesting experiences.

Internship #1 Wednesday 1/6

Work Place

The work place where I'm going to be working on is a little office cubicle and in that little office cubicle i have a computer where I'm going to be sending most of my time researching and using many programs.

Some thing that struck me?

One thing that struck me was that the Zoo doesn't get money at all to keep their animals safe and to feed them. What the Zoo has to do is that they have to depend one the money they made selling tickets for the Zoo and doing many events that will get them some money. They said that they don't get money like Sea world does because their not an organization or something like that but i thought that the Zoo really did need the money because they have a lot of in dangered animals that need a lot of care for.

Interesting Experience

One interesting experience was that i get to go in and out the Zoo with the ID card that i got. And during the time that i was there today my mentor said that i could go take a tour bus and go get a tour of the Zoo. It was really nice getting to see the Zoo again in like 1 and a half years. I also got to see the new born giraffe that was 3 months old.

Work

The work that I'm going to be doing at the Zoo is for a couple of weeks I'm going to be researching companies and other businesses that would like to help out the Zoo and we would like to auction them a couple of things and many other events that the Zoo is going to have. For maybe most part of my day there I'm going to be working in a office that's mine and there i have my own computer where i get to work with excell which I'm familiar with and with other programs and recording data.

Dress

The way that i have to dress to go to my internship is well i couldn't really tell because there were some people wearing jeans others wearing dress pants so i didn't know how i was suppose to go so i didn't know what to take a picture of. But my mentor said that almost every Friday they wear jeans and any kind of shirt but then other times during the weeks its more like a little professional.

Economic Questions

1.)What is the role of your work site/company in the larger economy?

Well the role that i think that my work site has in the larger economy is that well i don't think that it has a role because the San Diego Zoo had made their own money through events so i think that they have no role in the economy unlike Sea World and other companies that get money.

2.)How has the recession impacted your work site?

I don't think that the Recession has impacted the San Diego Zoo because since the Zoo makes its own money and it doesn't depend on getting it from some where else or getting loans then it doesn't owe anything and gets its money off of events and shows and the tickets that they sell.

Internship Day

-The time that i woke up today for internship was at 8:30 in the morning because i didn't have to be at my internship until 1 o'clock in the afternoon.

- What i ate for breakfast was some scrambled eggs and with a coffee

-Well i got to my internship because my mom dropped me off, and it took 20-30 min, and it was great i had a great day.

-The first thing that i did when i got to my internship was that i had to go to the lobby and ask for my mentor then after that i took a tour with my mentor around the Zoo.

-The place that i work at is the event planning and i work with many different people on different things. I work at the San Diego Zoo.

- Well what i did for lunch was i didn't really had lunch because i had already eaten before going to my internship

-During the after my mentor told me to go take the tour bus and go check out the Zoo.

-The type of work that i see myself doing is more research that my mentor wants me to for the up coming events

-Well i feel prepared for anything that my mentor wants me to do and i am always up for a little challenge if there ever is one. I think that I'm going to do mostly ever thing well.

-Well i don't think that i have learn anything else to be successfully

-The thing that makes me excited for being in this internship is that i get to help other people and also helping raise money for the animals that need help.

-Well at first i was kind nervous but then after a while i wasn't that nervous. I was nervous because i was in a new place with new people but i over came that and meet them.

-When i got home it was 6 o'clock in the after noon and my after noon was i got home and for some reason i was tired and fell asleep. When i woke up i went over the things that i had to do for my internship and brainstormed for ideas on how i could help.
